The US Special Forces Unit at Can Tho operated from at least January of 1963.
Detachment B-40 commenced operations in Can Tho in March of 1965 as the Command and Control HQ Element of the 4th Mobile Strike Force. This unit was unoffically known as Command and Control Mekong - CCM.
By Mid 1969 Detachment B-40 commanded over 1900 Indigenous Mercenary Operatives. With the withdrawal of US Forces from the region in mid 1970 and the growing strength of the Viet Cong in the area, the Base camp was closed in May of 1970.
